What to do around Mira Spirit ?
ATV Adventure
A trip with an ATV? In Mira Spirit not a problem at all.
A trail starts right at the village. Experience pure nature, without any cars around. Here in Atlantic Canada, the ATV is a common vehicle, but it's not allowed to ride on public roads with it. It replaces the horse and anyone who has ever taken a day trip on a horseback or an ATV, knows what we are talking about. A one of a kind outdoor adventure.
Water Sports
The Mira River is ideal for all types of 'getting wet' leisure activities. Whether canoeing, kayaking or just a swim in the morning it is always a fun time.
The one who would like to have something more motorized can also switch to jet ski, motor boat or a small yacht. Comfortable as well: an old fishing boat to sail around on the Mira.
Snowshoeing
This activity does not require a commentary. Buckle up your snowshoes and start trudging. For hours (if you like) thru the woods and paths where nobody has gone before.
You may only meet your neighbour on his snowmobile. That's fun too...
Fishing
With a fishing license (in the sea and parts of Mira Rivers without because it is salt water) you can start to catch your supper, take it to the campfire and share it with friends.
Hiking
Beautiful hiking trails can be reached easily. The 'Lighthouse Trail' in Louisbourg is a must, not to forget the breathtaking views and the true nature of the many trails at the Highlands National Park. Put your shoes on...
Golf
Cape Breton Island is a golfer's paradise. Several golf courses on Cape Breton Island are among the 100 best golf courses in the world. Cabot Links was the no. 1 in Canada in 2015(!) and Highland Links the # 7. Four golf courses (including 'The Lakes') can be reached from Mira Spirit by car within 30 minutes.
Detailed information can also be found at 'Golf Cape Breton'.
Ski & cross country skiing
The eleven ski slopes and various cross-country skiing trails at 'Ski Ben Eoin' are just waiting to be explored with a snowboard, by ski or cross-country skiing. A special snowshoeing event are the full moon walks, over viewing the Bras d'Or Lake. And an 'apres ski bar' is on site too. An important aspect: no long waiting queues and waiting times at the lifts. On weekdays you have the slopes almost to yourself.
Sailing
Cape Breton impresses with the Bras d'Or Lake. A lake with 1250km of coastline Canada's largest in-land sea. One of the best saltwater lakes in the world. Among sailors and boat friends it is popular because of its moderate southwest winds, rare instances of fog and hundreds of secluded coves and harbours to explore. The summer water temperatures are approx. 24-26° Celsius (~75° Fahrenheit).
Cape Breton Island is surrounded on one side by the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, the ambitious sailor finds unique coastal landscapes, rough and rocky with many fjords.
Tim Hortons
There is always time for a 'double-double' (double milk and sugar) going along with a cookie, muffin or bagel. You should always spare some extra time to visit this very unique Canadian Coffee House. After having visited a few stores and had a few coffees you'll know why 'Timmy's' overtook McDonald's as Canada's largest food service operator.
